Four names describe different kinds of event

Phare’s festival overview introduces Tini Tinou, S’Art, Chumnor and Ros. They are useful names to recognise when exploring Battambang’s arts calendar, but they should not be treated as four permanent attractions. Tini Tinou is associated with contemporary circus; S’Art with urban arts; Chumnor with a range of local creative disciplines; and Ros with food and arts on the Phare campus. A particular edition can combine several forms. The actual programme is more informative than a broad festival label.

Check the year before the month

Search engines can display an old event page prominently, especially when its title does not include a year. The S’Art page consulted for this guide advertises an edition dated 3–8 November 2025. Those dates are already past at this guide’s October 2026 check. They do not become 2026 dates because a search result says the page was recently crawled. Read the full announcement and look for a matching current booking or organiser update before arranging accommodation around an event.

Treat a programme as several arrangements

A festival may include ticketed performances, free public work, workshops with limited places and activities at different venues. Confirm the arrangements for the specific event you want, including language, booking, start time and location. A general festival pass or a public parade announcement does not automatically cover a workshop. If attending with a group, check whether individual registrations are required. Save the organiser’s current contact and the precise event title so a last-minute question can be answered without confusion.

Read the city between editions

The end of a festival does not end all of its cultural value. S’Art’s mural map, for example, provides a way to investigate works outside the original event dates. Exhibition documentation can introduce an artist whose practice you then follow elsewhere. Keep those two uses separate: an archive explains what happened; a current programme tells you what you can attend. A traveller can have a rewarding arts stay without a festival, using confirmed gallery visits, a performance or a workshop as the central experience.

Build in time for smaller encounters

A large event can make it easy to rush between headline activities and overlook a talk, a demonstration or a conversation with a maker. Select one or two sessions that match your interests and leave space around them. Ask whether an artist talk is intended for a specialist audience or can be followed without prior knowledge. If interpretation is offered, allow the interpreter to finish. Buying directly from an artist or attending a paid workshop can be meaningful, but a festival setting does not remove the need to clarify terms.

Afterwards, publish a dated and useful record

If sharing a visit, include the edition, date, venue and names you have confirmed. Credit performers, artists and organisers in the roles they actually held. Avoid reposting an old poster without a visible past-event label, because another traveller may mistake it for a new announcement. CamboArts uses festival records to help readers discover people and practices over time. It does not invent an annual schedule, promise future editions or convert a historic programme into a current booking offer. Keep travel bookings flexible until the organiser confirms the particular programme you intend to attend.
