Andong Russey pottery community
A recognised pottery area near Kampong Chhnang, with several English spellings of its name.
Observe practical objects being made
Andong Russey, also written Andong Russei or Ondong Rossey, is closely associated with Kampong Chhnang pottery. Published accounts describe hand-shaped production and the coexistence of everyday vessels with other ceramic work. Ask your host which stages can be seen in the workshop you are visiting. Watching a potter control the wall and opening of a vessel can be more revealing than judging the final piece by colour alone.
Plan for clay’s timetable
A hands-on session may produce a wet clay form, not a fired object ready for travel. Ask whether drying, firing, collection or shipping is included. For a purchase, clarify whether an item is intended for food, water or display and obtain care instructions. Pack fragile rims and handles properly. The village is a working community, so arrange introductions, pay any agreed activity fee and ask permission before turning a making process into a filmed demonstration.
