Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center
Audiovisual archives, filmmaking education and exhibitions offer a different route into Cambodia’s cultural memory.
An art visit through images and sound
Bophana’s documented work combines the preservation of audiovisual material with training in filmmaking and related media. Its exhibition archive includes photography and other cultural projects. For a visitor interested in contemporary expression, this offers a useful counterpoint to museums of sculpture. Start with a subject or question rather than expecting a short session to explain all Cambodian history. A film, photograph or recording is also a made object, shaped by who recorded it and why.
Prepare a research or viewing request
Tell the centre what you would like to consult and which languages you use. Check the date of any exhibition or screening notice before making travel plans: an archive entry is not a current event announcement. Permission to view a recording is separate from permission to reproduce it or screen it elsewhere. If your purpose is commercial publishing, describe that clearly and request the relevant rights information.
