Koh Chen metalworking community
A documented Kandal craft area associated with copper and silverware production.
Find the workshop, not just the village name
A government report from April 2025 identifies Koh Chen in Ponhea Leu district as a concentration of copper and silverware makers. It also describes related activity in neighbouring communes. For visitors, the useful next step is an introduction to a particular willing workshop. The community is not a single enterprise, and a road sign or tourism description does not establish that every household offers demonstrations or accepts commissions.
Questions for a purchase or commission
Ask how the object is shaped and decorated, what metal or plating it contains, and whether its intended use is decorative or functional. A silver-coloured finish alone cannot establish precious-metal content. For a custom piece, agree dimensions, motif, material description and timing in writing. Credit the artisan when sharing photographs, and confirm packing before buying a fragile or heavy object. An extended demonstration or design consultation should be paid according to the arrangement made with the host.
